Risk of wandering : early detection, prevention and safeguarding - Key messages for informal and family caregivers
Information sheet
Description
Québec is experiencing significant and accelerated aging of its population, which is notably associated with an increase in major neurocognitive disorders (MNCD). People living with MNCDs have cognitive impairments that affect their functional autonomy. They must be able to rely on the presence of informal caregivers who provide support, often on a daily basis. Wandering is a common behavorial symptom that can lead to the risk of getting lost.
Therefore, this document presents key messages to informal caregivers regarding early detection of wandering risks, preventive strategies to reduce the risk, appropriate actions to take when necessary, and useful resources. In Québec, there are 1,500,000 informal caregivers of all ages and backgrounds, who provide support to one or more members of their entourage.
